A Science Slam is an event with two basic ingredients: the scientists, who creatively explain their research projects, and the audience who watch them while drinking a beer or a cup of coffee.
Some scientists use humor, charm and even flirtation, while others do it with numbers, graphs, and curves. But all try to win the hearts of the audience, who give out points to their favorite scientists, after every presentation. At the end, the points are counted to find the winner who gets the night glory and title of coolest scientist in town!

A live quiz about science communication, fake facts, and fearless peer reviewers.
Did H.C. Ørsted really write nature poems when he wasn’t experimenting with electromagnetism? And is it true that the youth program “Ellen Imellem” suddenly turned Anja C. Andersen into a T-shirt producer? Welcome to an energetic, audience-involving quiz where science communication is put to the test. Two panels with participants from KU’s six faculties compete in assessing whether we have included an example of proper communication or if it is a case of fake news. The audience plays the role of peer reviewers and can be involved at any time when the panels are in doubt – because, as in the real world: you never fully know whether your peer review is a gift or a thorn in the side, but you ask anyway.
Host: Sabrina Vitting-Seerup, Assistant Professor in Science Communication at KU Participants: 2 panels of 3 people each, together representing KU’s 6 faculties.
Audience: Participate actively as peer reviewers. The panels can at any time “call for review” when they want help, counterplay, or support.
